The Port of Savannah is operated by the Georgia Port Authority and consists of two terminals, the Garden City Terminal and the Ocean Terminal, specializing in the handling of container, reefer, breakbulk and roll on/roll off cargoes.

Garden City Terminal is Savannah’s ultramodern, dedicated container terminal. At 1,200 acres, it’s North America’s largest single-terminal container facility. It is also the fourth largest container port in the United States.

The 200.4-acre Ocean Terminal  is a combination break bulk and roll on/roll off facility handling forest and solid wood products, steel, automotive and heavy equipment, project shipments and heavy-lift cargoes.

Savannah Ports are served by two Class I rail services, Norfolk Southern Railroad and CSX Transportation, as well as having Interstates 95 (North/ South) within 5.6 miles and Interstate 16 (East/ West) within 6.3 miles puts more than 70% of U.S. consumer within fast, easy reach.

Future Expansion of the Savannah Ports
The Georgia Ports Authority will invest $1.2 billion in expansion projects over the next decade to accommodate the projected growth in global trade.

Over the next 10 years, Garden City Terminal is expected to grow to a total of 25 cranes, as well as 86 Rubber-Tired Gantries (RTG) as part of long-term developments for a full RTG conversion at the facility.
Ocean Terminal’s wealth of surrounding land provides ample space for this growth to take place. Many acres are available for the development of additional open, paved storage for the productive processing of RoRo cargo.

As the volume of cargo moving through the Port of Savannah escalates and the ships carrying that cargo grow even larger, plans call for Savannah’s channel to be deepened from its present depth of 42 feet (12.8 meters) up to 48 feet (14.6 meters) at mean low water in order to accommodate the next generation of deep-draft vessels. Completion of this project is projected for 2014.
